Dear Tom,
The Motorola/Verizon $100 Mil
www.DROIDdoes.com
marketing push for their new Google
Android 2.0 based phone is inching toward 1
million units sold during fourth quarter 2009.
This is a true iPhone challenger that Apple
is concerned about. But the DROID alone does
not make an Invasion. It is just the first
of a wave of new Android 2.0 based phones
being released. In May 2009 the NY
Times forecasted 18-20 similar new
devices from multiple vendors would exist by
year's end.
Andy Rubin, senior
director for Mobile
Platforms for Google and the spearhead of the
Android operating system, said the number
could be as high as 20. (That figure does not
include devices made by manufacturers that
use a basic Android system but have not
apprised Google of its use). The 18 to 20
devices Google knows about will be made by
eight or nine different manufacturers, Mr.
Rubin said. FULL
ARTCLE
Do you have your Android 2.0 based phone
yet? With T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon
all now carrying such units it is a lot
easier to get one. The DROID product name is
unique to the Motorola / Google / Verizon
joint development effort. It's a spinoff of
the Google Android OS software upon
which the product is built. This influx of new
powerful, touch-screen smart phone devices
will be very disruptive to both the cell
phone industry - and certainly to Apple - for 3
key reasons:
- Android OS is classified as open
source software. That means
manufacturers that use it DO NOT have to pay
any royalty fee.
- Google (developers of the Android OS)
made sure
it worked well with their current
successful applications - such as Maps and
Google Apps.
- ANY manufacturer / cell phone carrier
combination is allowed to band together as
they deem fit to produce a new Android based
product; there are no exclusives.
This "go to market" scenario is almost totally
opposite of the one used by Apple's iPhone.
Apple did NOT ALLOW any other manufacturer to
use their proprietary mobile phone OS and
selected to have a 3 year relationship with
AT&T as the exclusive wireless carrier. Apple
owns the lion share of the smart phone market
today, but
market wars are brewing and the 2.0 invasion
is just beginning!
I'm not sure if these numbers include DELL
computer's Nov 18, 2009 announcement
about entering the Android smart phone
market. They
will introduce products in both China and
Brazil by end of year. Then there is the
rumored
"Google Phone". Will that be out soon?
QUES: So why care about just
another new mobile phone?
ANS: It's the APPS! The
"Google Android Marketplace" is similar to
Apple's iPhone app store. Not nearly as many
apps right now, but growing fast. Even more
important, all these phones are 100%
compatible with the
Google
Apps business software.
The mobile world can now fully embrace
"cloud computing". Gain wireless sync - NO
NEED for special cables and being at your
personal PC to sync email, contacts and your
calendar. Just enter new
data on the phone, it shows on your PC and
whatever contacts you add to your PC show up
in your phone's address book
automatically. These phones are going to be
"hot holiday gifts" for individuals
and business end of year purchases.
All DROID (as well as Blackberry and iPhone)
mobile devices are 100% compatible with GAFYD.net
(Google
Apps For Your
Domain via Net)
allowing commercial quality Web /
Mobile integration for any size company.

advantage - call us about GAFYD.net for smart
