Dear Tom,

While not without controversy, the phrase "Google it" is often used today. To "google" something, is the action (verb) of looking up or verifying information about something via Google's internet search engine.

Soon "Google Me" may mean to call my home phone, work phone, cell phone or my PC, using the new Google Voice service offering. Recent months are filled with announcements related to this new voice service (VoIP) from Google. Potential impact could be far reaching for:

  • the consumer - a single phone number allowing calls to/from a PC, mobile phone, laptop, netbook and other IP based devices.
  • Phone Companies both the wireline and wireless carriers are impacted as more call minutes become just a data stream.
  • SKYPE - even e-Bay's highly popular computer based VoIP service SKYPE should sit up and take note.

This topic involves many facets, too many to cover in this space. Links to interesting blogs on the topic are listed below. Pick 1 or 2 that interest you, leave comment(s) expressing your thoughts on the subject.

These new voice related offerings and their associated cost saving and productivity benefits will be integrated into other leading Google offerings such as Google Apps. Over 3,000+ companies/day are moving to the new "cloud computing" environment to save capital budgets and expand computing productivity.
