Dear Tom,
My kickoff blog post for 2009 "Can
you hear me (my Ideas) Now?" describes a
new Google system that allows us to directly
submit product ideas and suggestions, plus
even vote on those ideas. Interestingly this
initial system focuses on mobile
products! Why? Three basic reasons,
- Cell phone and mobile smart phone usage
continues to explode.
- Many people are virtually addicted to
their use (view this
NBC/Today Show video showing Forbes
Magazine editor ).
- Google Apps software (www.GAFYD.net)
is a "cloud computing" based solution, this gives
distinct mobile / wireless integration
ability.
When it went on sale in June 2007,
Apple's iPHone garnered the limelight. But it's
popularity is still largely with consumers.
In the world of business and
professionals, Blackberry devices rain
supreme. Unlike with iPhone (exclusive to AT&T),
all major cell phone carriers (T-Mobile,
Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and Cricket etc) offer
one or more BlackBerry models. Consider our
new president elect Barack Obama is so
attached to his Blackberry certain
followers refer to it as the
BarackBerry.
When former U.S. President Bill Clinton was
asked “…what his wife's (Hillary) "must have"
gadget was, he said her BlackBerry”. In
fact there are so many people that show near
addictive behavior about the device,
the term
CrackBerry is applied to them (i.e.
a comparison to the additive drug, Crack).
These are intelligent, busy and successful
people - why so committed to a simple device?
ANS: because it does key things they
need in a time
critical manner when they are mobile.
But remember these individuals have entire
staffs and IT departments behind them to make
it all work. Like telephones and PC's, on
the surface they look
simplistic and easy to operate. However they
are supported by a complex infrastructure and
human technical expertise. To tap the true
benefits and ROI (Blackberry devices require
"premium"
price plans) you need to go beyond the
surface and the obvious.
The BlackBerry's huge popularity is a factor
of multiple items;
- its simple track ball navigation (like a
PC mouse)
- adjustable font sizes (for older user's
eyes)
- full QWERTY keyboard (like a PC
keyboard)
- long battery life and easy airport
screening
- ------ & particular interest to
business & Government -----
- PUSH email (immediate send)
technology
- bi-directional encryption of
e-mail and text message
This popularity and business focus
has encouraged Google to invest heavily in
creating software specifically compatible
with BlackBerry (and similar smart phones).
Google Apps email, contacts, calendar,
blogging, RSS reader and more can be
installed on a
BlackBerry - regardless of cell phone carrier.
An item many customers don't realize is the
BlackBerry "services" provided from your wireless
carrier alone - differ a good bit from the
services provided when using a private BES
(BlackBerry Enterprise Server).
Costs to purchase, operate and manage a BES
server can be high. These costs are the
responsibility of the company owner and are
in addition to
normal wireless carrier costs. Using a Google
Apps based solution, www.GAFYD.net
you can compensate for these differences, and
do it at low affordable prices. Visit out
BLOG www.AllThingsIP.com
for details about mobile email and
BlackBerry solutions. Special blog posts
will be made during weeks Dec12th and Dec
19th. Please come check it out.
Best Regards, TOM
